Description

ABOUT THE COURSE

Today’s technology has made everyone in the workplace a writer — leaving your reputation and success increasingly dependent on how well you communicate. In this training course, participants gain knowledge in business writing, and leverage effective writing tools to create contract proposals, business plans, executive summaries, recommendation reports, and internal business communications.

At COINMAC, we believe that many people can communicate quite well in the general English learned at school or university; but we also know that this is not sufficient preparation for the totally different demands of using English in a professional or formal context like the one your work environment presents. One important function of every organization or Government is to write speech or reports of its activities for internal, external or public information.  However, there is a general assumption that most government workers in Africa are unable to express themselves correctly, clearly and effectively.  The fact is that the majority of the problems and conflicts we experience in our personal lives and at work stem from our failure to write or communicate effectively.

This is the raison d'être for this course.

This COINMAC training course will feature:• How to adapt writing to your audience's needs• Proven ways to improve the effectiveness of various forms of written communication• Presentation skills to persuade even the most hostile audience• Power language to improve persuasiveness and impact• How to convey a credible message and create concise messages using a structured writing process

COURSE OBJECTIVESDuring this programme, participants will hone their skills and be able to contribute to the development of their organization.  We expect them to display a greater level of proficiency   when engaged in formal tasks like writing of reports, memos, letters, briefs, proposals as well as drafting e-mails. Specific objectives are to:• Write clear and concise documents to accomplish organizational objectives• Develop writing skills to convey a credible message• Compose concise messages using a structured writing process• Adapt your writing to your audience's needs• Fine-tune language to improve persuasiveness and impact• Enhance email communication by creating clear messages• Compose targeted messages using a structured official writing process• Master new techniques which can be easily adapted for all types of written communications • Write an effective Executive Summary to communicate key issues in official documents• Understand different types of report writing • Understand what jargons are and their effects on individual report writing • Understand the role of concord in report writing • Appreciate and understand how referencing and literature reviewing can be correctly done in professional writing

Hands-On Experience Includes:• Identifying your audience• Drafting for clarity and revising for conciseness• Constructing successful email communication• Creating a Prioritization Matrix• Writing an effective Executive Summary• Producing a report using an end-to-end writing process
