Description

ABOUT THE COURSE

Public Private Partnership (PPP) is a long-term partnering relationship between the public and private sectors to deliver services. Through PPP, the public sector seeks to bring together the expertise and resources of the public and private sectors to provide services to the public at the best value for money. The critical need for the massive application of the PPP arrangements in resolving Nigeria’s huge infrastructural deficits cannot be over-emphasized. In many other countries, PPPs have been used to develop large transportation infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, transit systems, seaports and airports. They have also been used in other areas like power, water, wastewater and gas sectors, as well as for asset-based projects in health care, education, and defence. Examples of these countries include the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, the province of British Colombia, Canada, India, to mention a few. With the current state of dilapidated infrastructure in the Nigerian economy, and in a view to enhancing better economic development after 50 years of independence, it is hoped that the public and private sectors of the economy would seize the opportunities provided by evolving global partnerships to create enduring infrastructures and development in Nigeria. The programme shall critically analyze  the adoption  of  PPP  as  a strategy  in  ongoing public sector  reform with a view to finding solution to the critical challenges.

PPPs provide an opportunity to: • Improve Service Delivery• Improve cost-effectiveness• Increase investment in public infrastructure• Reduce public sector risk• Deliver capital projects faster• Better use of assetsThe participants shall be exposed to strategies that could facilitate PPP to succeed and to address the challenges to enhance  the  success  of adopting PPP in the public sector. This is the raison d’etre for this workshop.
