ABOUT THE COURSEUnderstanding the areas of risk arising under laws that govern Nigerian workplaces is critical to issues such as recruitment, business re-organisations, dismissals and general employee engagement.This workshop focuses on the legal issues associated with day-to-day employment-related decisions and actions and how to manage in a legally sound manner. It covers the legal implications of decisions affecting employees; managerial roles and responsibilities; how to spot potential legal problems and prevent them; and when and how to involve internal resources. This course is designed for new and emerging HR managers to keep you up to date on the legislative and regulatory changes that influence the organisation’s risks, rights and responsibilities.

COURSE OBJECTIVESUpon completion of the workshop, participants should be able to:•    Identify and address conduct and systemic issues that give rise to claims and grievances•    Be better equipped to manage risk arising in the workplace.•    Identify how best to implement appropriate policies in your organisation•    Confidently handle internal disciplinary and grievance procedures•    Operate within the law and company policy•    Gather information and investigate effectively•    To understand the principles of conducting disciplinary, grievance and appeal hearings•    Recognising the importance of the law and legal requirements when handling formal meetings•    Dealing with disciplinary, grievances and appeal hearings effectively and in line with company policy•    Understanding why discipline and grievance matters are addressed promptly•    Conducting Investigations•    Conduct a Disciplinary or Grievance hearing effectively•    Conducting appeal hearings effectively•    Understanding the key features of a Disciplinary and Grievance Policy•    Understand legislation in relation to absence•    Differentiate between the approaches for short and long term absence•    Conduct effective return to work interviews•    Investigate long term sickness absence, including absence due to stress•    Understand how to generate and promote practical rehabilitation measures•    Have confidence in applying effective absence management policy in the workplace
