COURSE RATIONALE
As the name implies, the term “readers services” refers to direct services of a library to the users in meeting their information, education and recreation needs. No matter the efficiency of technical services, a library is considered a failure if it is unable to embark on aggressive readers services. While technical services are universal to all types of libraries, readers’ services are numerous and vary from one type of library to another and among similar libraries depending on the capacity of each.
Basically, readers’ services include routine in the circulation, reference and audio-visual department as well as the library reprography.
With the introduction of technology, readers’ services have been revolutionized. Many libraries in the third world, including Nigeria are gradually but steadily converting from manual to computerized routine. The benefit of the automated readers services are both self-evident and overwhelming. This workshop therefore aims at the following objectives:
